Default Exhaust system

I just recently cut the muffler off on my 2001 ram 1500( 1 cat), and it sounds the exact same! i was just wondering if maybe like carbon build up is keeping it quiet or if it will get louder over time. also if i dump the exhaust how much differnce will it really make, and is there anything else i can do to make it louder, i wanted to cut the cat of but it has one of those plugs in it and i didnt know what it would do to my truck if i cut it off.

When I did the exhaust on my firebird..... having JUST the cat, and nothing after it sounded quite mean. However, it also allowed a lot of exhaust into the passenger cabin... not good..... Removing the cat, and putting on a good free-flowing exhaust though, THAT sounded WAY cool. (after that, I never turned the radio on again....)

If you live where you don't have to worry about emissions testing, you can get an off-road Y-pipe, which will have the bungs for the sensors.. and flows a HELL of a lot better than the stock piece. If you have to have a cat, magnaflow makes a replacement that also has a better flowing Y-pipe.

Add a flowmaster 44, or even a 10.... and it will sound pretty good. Check out youtube for LOTS of videos featuring various exhaust combinations.

Welcome to DF.

ya the stock cat kills us. with its stock y-pipe design. gut or remove it replace with straight pipe or high flow. i removed mine and put a aftermarket y-pipe to a flowmaster super 10. here is my newest video
