drivers side seal replacement requires the removal of the carrier. its not as bad as it sounds, but its hard to get it out. i used sheriff's idea of using a come-along to pull tension on it, and then smack it some with a rubber hammer. once the carrier is out, the seal is visible. i found the drivers seal easier to seat.
--axles must slide out before diff will come out. on the passenger side, both the outer axle and the inner (intermediate) axle must slide out a few inches.
passenger side you have to work inside the little cad box. while here, you have to remove the collar (note chamfer on outside). good time to inspect things, replace bushings, remove burrs. be SURE and reinstall inner axle before installing seal, as the BIG inner axle won't fit through the seal hole.
do a search here on axle seal driving tools. you can make or buy one, but you MUST have one, and it different for each side.
