weird transmission problems.
okay i've been having this same problem for about a year now. i'll try and explain it the best i can, because i really need some help with it.
before 2 weeks ago sometimes i would be driving and when the truck was shifting from 4th gear to overdrive, it would shift then if i let off the gas a little or pushed it down a little farther it would shift very quickly all the way into 4th and then shift quickly back into overdrive. it would do it almost everytime shifting into overdrive. so i checked the tranny fluid one night and it was low so i added some and it drove fine. it started having this problem about 2 weeks ago so i checked the tranny fluid and it was fine. this time the problem only happens sometimes. mainly when the truck is cold and first started driving. it only does it in overdrive from the speeds of about 45-51mph.
does anyone have any clue what this could be? i'm gonna try to put a video up in about 30 minutes. '

As long as tv cable hasn't been adjusted before, that's probably fine. It may be more simple, like a bad O2, or your line pressure in the trans could be low.
Does it have a tendency to hunt for gears between 2nd and 3rd?
I said the o2 senser above, because the computer decides the shift by the output of the engine metering sensors or by deturmined load, however you want to look at it.
I've seen alot of vehichles, particularly durango's that show up with possible trans issues and it turns out to be a TPS,CPS,O2 or map.
It's not uncommon for the trans to shift to OD between 38 mph on light load to 45mph on moderate load. But say it shifts to OD and the load on the computer jumps too high it will downshift almost instantly.
Tightening up on the TV a tiny bit will hold the gear a little longer to help reduce the gear hunt, but ultimately the line pressure would need to be higher.

I had a bad o2 sensor about a month ago and i changed it and all my other problems. I only changed the pre cat o2 sensor though. should i change the post cat o2 sensor too? and how could i get the pressure up in my trans lines?
If the rear O2 isn't setting a code, don't bother with it. All it does is monitor catalyst efficiency. Doesn't affect how the motor runs.
A bad pressure sensor would keep line pressure low.....

This isn't actually true. Over time it can go out of adjustment. Or if you have done work in that area you could have adjusted it without you knowing about it.
I dont know if the TV cable has ever been adjusted or not. I have only had the truck for 2 years and its a 97. I have no clue what has been done to it before i got it. I havent messed with the transmission cause its been fine with me until now. I may change the post cat 02 sensor just for the hell of it to see if it helps anything.
What kind of gauges would i need to check the transmission line pressure? or could i just take it to the dodge dealer and tell them to check it?
