I second that fail safe tstats are junk. Bought three, one for each of my trucks and gfs jeep. ALL "failed" open. Even though they were the proper recommended 195*.

You might want to rephrase what you just said. Fail safes suppose to fail in the open position. Hence the name, fail safe. You have an underlying issue that needs to be addressed.

X2. His statement really had me scratching my head

Right, What is happening is that once the fail safe thermostat hits its peak temperature of say 195* it gets held open by the locking mechanism thus, "Failing open". I took all three back to Autozone and they said that they didnt sell many since they were all $13 or more but that this was a common issue.
It would seem to me that if I was making these thermostats that if I wanted it to operate normally at 195* that the fail safe would have to kick in at around 200-210*.
You might sell me on ONE of these failing because something was wrong with one of our vehicles. But not ALL THREE and not when the vendor told me it was a common issue. All three vehicles run at the correct temp with traditional t-stats equiped.
