Default My temp goes from 250 to 210

I just got a 95 Ram over the weekend. I noticed the temp goes up and down from 210 to 250.

At work it overheated and i had a big leak from my radiator.
I installed a new radiator, and then took it for a test drive. It climbed up to 250 stayed there a sec...and then settled down for the rest of the drive ( about 5 minutes) at 210.

Do i need to replace my thermostat? Should i be worried about something bigger?

Thanks )

Could be sticking thermostat. Theyre only a couple of bucks and not hard to change so it's not gonna hurt. did you make sure to burp the system good?

Check this and burp the system really good. Air pockets will do that.

Just curious, but why don't you like fail safe stats?

Uncap your radiator when your truck is cold and start her up. As the engine warms up the t-stat will open and circulate coolant. Since the cap is off the air will escape. It works better if you can get the right side of the truck higher in the air.

Anyway, once you quit hearing it "burp" replace the cap and you're good to go.
