Default Chrome Wheel Coating Removal

Well i should probably put this in the 3rd gen section but ill put this here since my truck is a 2nd gen lol anywaysssss....

im trading my off-roadish wheels and tires for some 3rd gen dodge ram stock flower style 20" wheels (and tires of course) and im concerned because one is peeling the chrome (coating?) a little bit, i was gonna paint them anyways but idk how this is gonna go with that coating peeling, has anyone removed the chrome? what with? I was thinking wire wheel on a drill to all of them to scuff them up for a good base for primer, then a good amount of etching or filler primer, then im gonna do a sparkle-ish gunmetal (couple coats) and of course clear coat... but with this one peeling my jobs a little harder :/

so has anyone removed the coating? or done something like this?
-THANKS IN ADVANCE!!!

btw i did search and had no luck... so if someone is smarter than me and knows where a thread is about this that would be cool lol

these ones didnt seem like they were, i know the big horn ones (skinny 5 star) are covers and ive read they are a pain to remove, but i swear these flower ones done have covers, i may be wrong but when i checked them out today on the kid im tradings truck the parts with chrome chipped off deffinetly looked like oxidized aluminum (white-ish?)

That prolly because Dodge did it right with those wheels.
Yes, that's chrome.
Yes, it will be a pain in the *** to get off.

Other than that, I have nothing.

oh great... :/ love the reply haha... i think im gonna do another search because i saw a pic of some black flower petal 20"s on here or something, i would think if its peeling it wouldnt be that bad but idk... i think ill just peel off parts of the one and hope primer fills the nastiness and scuff the rest so the paint will stick, thanks though

i had those on my truck stock.. they are not clad, they are plated.. getting the chrome off short of some sort of chemical charge dip is going to be difficult..

i'd almost rec you scuff and powder coat them.. or plasti dip.. what are you looking to do to them?

yeah i kinda figure that, i want to paint them gunmetal or black, i dont like chrome its tacky lol, i did find this though, 3 posts down helopilot talks about how he painted his and on the 1st page you can see how they look, so i think i might bite the bullet and go for it lol cuz they look good, and ive heard time and time again that its all in the prep work... https://dodgeforum.com/forum/3rd-gen...ver-ram-2.html
