Sh^t if it holds overdrive use it, if you think about it 1200 pounds is not much you could have more than that in the bed going on a camping trip.
And if your brakes noticeably are affected you need to redo some brakes I take my bike about 800lbs all the time and never notice it, and the toolbox in the bed is close to 300lbs

Negative, do not use O/D. That is, unless you want to be rebuilding your transmission soon. O/D is where these trannies work the hardest, and they are not designed to pull anything more than the truck itself (empty) + passengers in O/D.Originally Posted by redheadhunter21

I havent had a problem yet using OD, my truck only has 178K on the stock tranny, I pull my bosses trailer, about 2k without a problem, now the boat gets OD off.
I have always gone by if it holds OD and doesnt hunt its not gonna hurt anything

believe it or not, I have put 4200 lbs from concrete bags in my truck on a 40 miles trip, 3 or 4 times, and nothing bad happened. mine is 98 1500 2wd 5.2, if mine can handle that weight every ones ram can

1200 pounds, I wouldn't worry. 4200 pounds, I'd be worried about busted leaf springs or shackles.Originally Posted by generaljr

if you don't try, you never knows if its possible. I have as witnesses 2 chevy guys, I get in my truck the extra load that they refused to put in their 30 mpg trucks
