Unhappy Transmission on 2000 ram

I have a 2000 ram 1500 with the 318
ive been adding to it as i get the doe but i changed the transmission fluid and found this in the bottom of the pan? it has been slipping for a few years now do i need an entire rebuild or can this be replaced.

That's one of the band anchors. Or, something to that affect. Need to replace that. Put it back together. I bet your slipping problems are gone.

Something exactly to that effect. It's a band anchor.

Slipping for two or three years? Putting it back now might not help for long. If the trans busts through the glaze without pulling chunks out of the friction material that remains, so much the better. If it doesn't? Ruh roh.

2nd gear band anchor/strut. Looks broken, the reason it fell out is probably because the 2nd gear band is toast, putting it back in probably wont help since the band has been going out for 2 or 3 years.

IF that is your only problem you can replace the 2nd gear band without pulling the transmission. I have posted about that a couple of times on this board.
