detroit locker reviews?
anyone here running a detroit locker? Im looking into buying a combo package from moes that includes the detroit locker and a set of gears, just wanted to hear what you guys had to say about the locker? pros and cons? moes claims that it is the best LSD for the 9.25, thanks for any info guys
Well I don't have one in my Dodge but I do have one in my Monte Carlo with a big block and Strange S-60 (same as Dana 60). I am very happy with it. Heard all the stories about it chattering going around corners, etc. and I have not experienced any of that. I've only got around 4000 miles on mine since it's not my DD but no problems yet. Just have to make sure it's locked in before you stab the gas lol
One word for you: WINNING!
Seriously though, when it comes to lockers the Detroit is far and beyond anything I've seen. It is a full time automatic locker though, so it is always engaged. It isn't a LSD which stands for limited slip differential. It locks up whenever wheel speed is different and it will not break. It has its quirks of ratcheting but that is how it is designed. If not for that ratcheting it would not turn a corner! I absolutely love mine, and it is definitely the best mod I've made to my truck.

I don't have it either, but actually there is a TV show called Truck U on SPEED. They recently dedicated a whole entire episode on the Detroit locker. They took a stock Jeep to the Eaton proving grounds and took it through a series of obstacles in 4WD needless to say it failed EVERY one. They then preceded to install the Detroit locker and give you instructions on how to do so. They took it back through the same obstacles and completed EVERY one without a problem one even in 2WD! It really was cool and worth watching. Here is a link to the episode... http://www.truckutv.com/index.php?op...on-7&Itemid=76
well thats all good news for my little 2wd haha might just have to splurge..however idk how I feel about the ratcheting when turning though..one guy told me that I could have it installed to where I could switch it on when I wanted it and I could switch it off when I didnt need it and it would go back to a open diff
That guy is totally wrong. You can buy an activated locker such as an ARB locker or an OX locker. The ARB is actuated by air, so you have to buy a compressor as well. The Ox Locker is actuated by a cable in the cab. You won't find either of those for the chrysler 9.25 i'm pretty sure. The only other locker options for our rear ends are the locrite (sp?) and I think there is one more that escapes my memory.
my mistake, the one he said that can switch on and off is the detroit tru trac, which is a LSD. anyone have experience with that?

Haha, I got one of those in the front of my truck. Anything Detroit is automatic meaning there is no switching anything. IE you don't do anything. To me, it is the best LSD for a truck because it doesn't have clutches and you don't have to add a friction modifier which means, longer life. It isn't a true locker though and the gears inside it will let the axles spin at different speeds once a certain pressure limit is reached. I love it for the front of my truck. I think it would work well in the rear as well, but once again it isn't a true locker.
I've had mine for quite a while now so prices maybe higher, but I got 4.10 Motive Gears with master Install kits and a detroit locker for the back and a Truetrac for the front installed for around $1800. I can't remember the price of just the materials or just the labor. A good reputable shop should only charge 4-6 hours of labor to install just the rear gears with a LSD or Locker.
