Correct me if I am wrong, if I power break the vehicle with out letting the wheels spin, it would create that load needed to make the engine ping? The sound does not sound like a ping at all, it sounds like something loose.

ECT is a really easy and cheap option, will try that - but what is the AIT?

It's IAT, Intake Air Temp sensor. May be known at the parts store as Air Charge sensor.

Got it, pretty easy to find as one will be at the front of the intake, in a water passage and the other must be at the top of the intake in a air passage.

The ECT is under the alternator and the IAT is on the same side, up higher towards the front on the side of the intake.

A Haynes manual or the FSM download from the FAQ section has the test procedure for all the sensors if you want to test them first.

Thank you zman, I know where they are. I just did a plenum rebuild and pulled those two sensors already when I cleaned the intake up. I will pick them up at the parts store later this week and see if that resolves the mysterious sound. I do not have much faith in a ping being the sound I hear.

I think it's more of a drivetrain issue from Torque Converter back, but you guys have more experience with these Dodges then I do.

Neither do I (never know I guess). Noises are the hardest things to diagnose in person, let alone over the internet.

Can not hear the noise even when applying the break and increasing the RPM's in drive (power break). That should rule out the torque converter, I would think this would be a axle issue, maybe it's time to remove both covers and do a fluid change and see if I can see anything out of place lol.

What ever it is, it is only while driving and under light throttle so that rules a lot out such as breaks, engine, exhaust, body components ect.
