Have a look at the check valve in the cooling line leading to the lower fitting on the radiator. I suspect it may be getting clogged. 46RE will disable O/D if temp gets to high, which is slightly below the temp it turns on the trans temp light.

If you are having assorted issues with the trans, it may not hurt to drop the pan, change fluid/filter, adjust the bands, and see if you find anything interesting in there.

the tcc clutch sol, bands, filter/service was done less than 10k/6months. it had the same issues then. they thought it was my hypertech download that was causing the issue. i think thats bull $hit. Ive known of the check valve issue for awhile but the trans shops I've had the work done at never seem to addresss the issue. whats the purpose of the check valve in the loop anyway if you can remove it and not adversely affect normal operation?

It helps keep the fluid from draining out of the torque converter for the most part. Bad part is, if it gets clogged or sticks, the fluid doesn't flow to get cooled. say goodbye to your tranny in a matter of minutes.

You are right, most good shops will remove the check valve or at least know about it. From there, installing a Sure Cure kit in the valve body addresses any other issue with flow.

Appreciate the thought, but, did you happen to notice this thread is almost a year old?
