Default I think I'm doing this right. DESPERATELY need top dash for 1997 Dodge Ram 1500

I apologize if this isn't in the right place. I am somewhat of a slow learner/confused easily. I wasted $193 getting what I thought was a replacement top dash. You know the hard plastic part right up by the windshield. Turns out it was just a dang cover for it. it's designed to be adhered to the existing dash. Here's the problem. When I got the truck, the existing dash...didn't exist. Literally nothing there to add a cover to! My question is does anyone have a top dash that will fit my truck? Preference for gray but definitely not picky. I can't afford new and took me forever afford to get this cover thingie. I don't expect special treatment, but please try to work with me as I am on a fixed income. I don't care if it's got cracks. heck, what dodge doesnt from that era? Desperate here guys. I need something to adhere this dang cover to lol. Due to my lack of intelligence, I'm not even sure if I can find this forum again for responses or offers. My personal email is artistic_cowboy30@yahoo.com and my name is Charlie. I am located in a hick town called Hamilton, Texas (76531). Thanks guys. Again, I apologize if this is in the wrong area of the forum.
P.S.- No junkyards anywhere near me. I tried to attach a pic but can't figure out how. Please go to the following link to see the style I am referring to. What is shown is the cover but I am directing you to it for the shape/style of it so you know the shape/style dash I need. http://www.lmctruck.com/icatalog/de/full.aspx?Page=95 it's the upper left (56-7400)

use the cover as a template over some masonite, heavy cardboard, or veneer panel.. trace it, and then cut it with a sharp knife.. adhere the cover to it... put it in place..

whalah..

If I understood him correctly he has a dash cover like that one but doesn't have the dash to which said cover attaches too.

I wanted to get one of those covers but couldn't afford it at the time so I ordered a carpeted dash cover for about $30 plus. I attempted to glue what was left of my dash before putting the cover on but the dang the shattered into a hundred more pieces in the process. I gave up and threw the cover over what was left of it. Thought about buying cans of that expanding foam insulation stuff (used to seal cracks in the home) and pumping in it in the cavity to support what was left of it.

Actually what Drew suggested sounds worth a try.
