Default power steering reservoir studs

99 1500 4x4 5.9l the studs that mount the reservoir to the pump are missing from my old pump which is obviously causing my massive leak lol. My question is can I replace them with regular bolts or must i go searching junk yards for the magical studs. I called a few dealerships and they claim they cannot get them. If I can use bolts does anyone know what size is needed and should I use a washer with rtv on it?thanks everyone

i don't see any reason why bolts wouldn't work just as well as studs. i don't know the size, but if you have a good local hardware store, you could buy one of each size that looks close, metric and sae, fine thread and coarse. its got to be one of those combos. or just remove the pump and take it to the store.

if the bolts penetrate into the fluid cavity, then you should use rtv to seal the threads. even if they don't penetrate, rtv will act as a locktite and prevent them from backing out, so no harm in using a little. as fas as washers, look to see if they help cover the bolt hole, or do they just get in the way. your call on what fits best.

How much is a jy pump? Bolts can be cut and used as studs usually it takes welding a similar nut in the same place as the old to create the correct install height/length.

well i decided that i wanted to use the factory studs so i went to the local upull it and got the studs. came home removed the pump and found that the previous owner also decided he wasnt going to swap the 1" nut that is part of the pressure union to the new pump. so tomorrow will be another trip to the junk yard. i have some pictures as requested . please correct me if this is not the right way to post pics

here is the horrible messy uncleaned pump in the bay

the pulley removed which is much easier than installing the pulley

halfway installed pulley. my arms are killing me. tomorrow im going back to harbor freight and buying the longest open end wrench i can find to help with the install

my new pulley removal tool from harbor freight for $14.99

and the magical studs i asked about earlier
