Default exhaust and catalytic converter

My truck has 100,000 miles on it and the exhaust past the catalytic converter is going bad, developing holes, and I was wanting to replace the the whole system from the exhaust manifolds on back. Do catalytic converters ever go bad? I would think after a 100,000 miles that it would be time to replace the catalytic converter. I am not looking to get away cheap here and was curious if anyone had a recommendation on what exhaust system that I should go with.

Thanks for the help!

Cats can and do go bad, but it's entirely possible that yours is/are still fine. Personally if you're going manifold-back I'd get a single 3" high flow cat and a 3" muffler of your choice and Y the two together. But that's just me.

I believe that magnaflow makes a hole kit from the cat back to th muffler. I think i heard someone say it cost like 195 or something. I bought there highflow cat and its a great upgrade. that cost me like 95. it might have been 150 for the hole kit. ( meaning without the muffler.) then again i have no clue. I could find out exact numbers for you but ill have to call a friend of mine tomorrow.

CUT IT OFF!! Just cut the cat off and have a Y pipe put in its place thats what I did and its been off for over 2000 miles and it hasn't tripped the light, if it does trip the light then get a simulator. My exhaust is 2.25 off the manifold into a 2.5 main pipe then 2.25 tailpipes with a one chamber flowmaster. Very loud, but sounds great!!
