Default Honest opinion on sct tuner

I have a bone stock 5.9 4x4 01 1500 and was wondering if it would be worth it to buy the sct tuner. I'm looking for mpg and I know I'm getting ten and I could probably get it up to 15 at best but I'm just looking for your opinion. I dont really want to do any internal engine mods or a lot of mods in general. Im just asking how it worked for you and if it's worth it for a stock truck. Oh and I have 150,000 miles. Thanks!

If your looking for MPG's, then SCT won't do much for you. You SHOULD do your plenum if your looking for fuel economy.

I don't think it's blown, I have no pinging and I think plenty of power, I can take off going up the bridge (best hill in FL)

If bought strictly for mileage the question is how long is it going to take to pay back the investment...?

I'd get one, it certainly wil help the truck run better, yes you will get better mileage, but with the added performance, it's gonna be hard to stay out of it...

I said my plenum probably isnt blown but I don't really know, and I'm just trying to justify spending 250+ on a tuner, if it's worth it I have no problem doing it but I'm just not sure

I have a Superchit on my 98 Ram, SCT on the Dakota drag tuck. The superchit made a diff on the Ram, but I got it for 75 too.

The SCT is the best out there for a modded truck, B&G sucks *****. Period. My Dakota is going beyond the ability of an SCT, even custom tuned, so I'm going carbed, which means I'll be seling either the SCT or the Superchip.

I like what the Superchit did for the Ram, but I have to run 91 to notice a diff....I'll be selling the Superchit. SCT is the best we have...We are not Moostangs or Chebbie chit with multiple choices in tuners.

We be MOPAR...with a capital $.

("c" instead of "s" becase I can't say ****.)

you should NOT get a tuner if you have a blown plenum. Also, you should run a 180* thermostat to get the most performance, as that is what hemifever uses when tuning the SCT.

Only get a SCT after you have checked and your plenum is not blown. Otherwise the SCT will do very VERY little.

MPGs:
1. Fix plenum
2. Get an open element air filter/spectre drop in. Edelbrock pro flow (triangle foam cleaner) got me the best MPG increase (2.5 MPG) but it does not clean the air very well (25 dollars in autozone). Just get a spectre drop in cloth air cleaner for 25 bucks from autozone.
3. SCT

Do those things in that order and you will like the results. You can also tell hemifever to give you an economy tune. I think he makes those.

You automatically think it's blown because of the 150K...?

Maybe you should quit posting tips...I know guys with over 250 without blown plenums, and guys with 80k that have a blown plenum...It's not a mileage thing....Sheeeeshh.

Read and learn....
