Default exhaust

I have a '99 Ram 4x4 quad cab and would like to get an exhaust system. I was looking at the Flowmaster American Thunder kit and i think that it comes with a 50 series, i want a 40 series, how do i get that kit with a 40? Also would dual 40 sereies flowmasters sound better and louder than one, i do not mean real dual exhaust, just single pipe into one cat and then into dual 40's, would that be better than one?

Thanks

I would go with a single 40 series, dual out with the outputs necked down to 2.25". otherwise you'll loose low end torque and your mpg will drop 1~1.5 mpg... I have this setup with a 50 series (bought the kit) and it rocks. your truck is too heavy for the setup your talking about (torque wise). a 2x4 sb sc... yes! it would rock but with the 4x4 QC no... my .02 cents worth...

I would disagree about loosing the 1-1.5 mpg with bigger tailpipes. I'm running a magnaflow muffler 3" in dual 2.5" outles (machine bent) and I have more low end torque. I don't run much at WOT so I'm all about getting torque. Mileage even went up a little. Between that and a CAI I've gained about 1 to 1.5 mpg. Need to still put a heat shield on the CAI though.

humm, were yours mandrel bent? mine definately lost low end and right after putting on the 2.25" reducers, I had a ton of low end torque back, mpg went up 1~1.5 mpg to. burn out's were much more fun... to the length of about 15~20 ft. with 285's. prior to the reducers, I was lucky to break them loose...

Mine tailpipes are machine bent which means it really isn't 2.5" all the way. I'm probably lucky to have 2.25" flow in some of the bends. Without power braking, on dry pavement I could barely if ever spin the tires before the exhaust change and still can't. I got 3.55 gears which I know is part of the problem and it may still be lacking the power I could get out of it. On wet pavement gotta hang on though cause it loves to spin but thats kind of cheating.

Are you power breaking to get them spinning and what gears are you running?

BTW, a magnaflow muffler has good performance but if anyone is wanting something to make a loud rumble I would NOT recommend it. It does have a good noticeable sound taking off but not anything like a flowmaster. Can't even hear it when I cruising down the road. If you want performance and a little sound it's alright, but me being a country I don't like it. Just trying to decide whether to switch to a flowmaster or just run straigths and **** all the neighbors off.

ahh, thats why... not mandrel bent. that would make sense too because your inadvertantly necking it down in size with those bends. if you went with mandrel bent all the way you'd see a low end loss. btw, the dual 2.25" is slightly bigger than a single 3" out exhaust... do the math and check it out.

I have 4.11's and it was 285's the last time I laid rubber using the power brake method. Now i have the 295's and the modded kegger and am lucky to break them loose since all of the power is in the upper rpm range...

Yeah I know the 2.25" duals would be a little bigger. Still has nice low end (I think). The 4.11's would explain how you could lay rubber. I don't power brake my truck. I know a lot of people do but I don't plan on it. To me real power is smashing the pedal to the floor and seeing what it has. Doing this method my truck will barely bark the tires on dry pavement as I said previously. I'm sure that if I power braked it I could get the smoke to roll. Once pulling out of the carwash the tires were a little wet and I laid on the throttle and got smoke to roll but that was it.

If I add the 52mm fastman TB will that help low end much or does that affect high rpm power more? How much for sure will it cost after I send my old one back. The fastman website says $250 w/$80 core so I'm not for sure if that means I get it for $170 after all or if what.

there was a group buy on the TB's here, $220 delivered contact Amanda (Dodgegirl19) and see if it's still on. the core is charged on top of that and promptly refunded when Dan recieves the core.

The TB upgrade is an awesome one, get the 52mm and you wont be disappointed.

you may all think this is retarted, but here it goes....I am planning on making my truck TOTALY custom, and was planning on doing a custom side exhaust, like on old corvettes and stuff...do you think I would loose any power if I did that, cuz I think those pipes are pretty wide in diameter. I also plan on getting some long tube headers.
