v10 oil issue
Hello i have a 97 2500 ram with a v10 bought the truck with 92,000 miles on it now i have 163,000 on it now had the truck for 4 years and changed the oil every 3000 to 5000 miles and had no problems until about 4 months ago when i lost oil pressure.found that the pickup tube was clogged with what looked like burned on oil .had to scrape screen with screwdriver to get it to come off very baked on put back together and had great oil pressure 30psi at idle and about 45 to 50psi at around 1700 rpm for about 4 months then lost oil pressure again took oil pan off and checked pickup tube and it was the same thing baked on hard oil clogging the tube I was woundering what could be causing this to happen??? the truck temp runs around 195 to 200 degrees thats what it has been running since i had truck. does anyone think it could be that the cats might be clogged ? thank you for your help.
If your getting that much crud, then there had to be a bad overheat in it's past, or it's got some bad valve guides. Blowby doesn't help either.
It could be the oil your using that is causing it to free up and find itself to the pan. Make sure the crankcase ventilation system is unclogged and working.....pvc, hoses, clean air vent, usually to the air box.
There may not be a lot you can do at this point without tearing down and cleaning..
an old trick back in the day, was to take kerosene and 50% oil and run it thru it. The kero will clean most of it out, but there are risks.
