Yeah, after a lot of sanding.
I painted my horse trailer and it was galvanized steel. Years later the paint is still there so I applied the same concept and did some research on painting chrome.

I sanded down the chrome until the shine was gone, very dull chrome. I think I went as low as 80 grit.
Wax and grease remover followed by grey etching primer.
I was nervous about some of the scratches but the etching primer covered em.
I really contemplated using automotive paint but used heavy machinery paint instead. I used the same type of paint on my horse trailer and upon inspection I found no rock chips the choice was easy.
I sealed the paint with a lacquer (misspelled) clear coat. I don't have much experience with the clear, but its what was recommended so I gave it a shot. The horse trailer has no clear coat

Finish on it, and just noticed the color is a tad faded with sun and time.

(My mistake with the 2 posting)

Is that the replacement grill they sell on ebay for like 40 that says it wont fit our sport model? Been thinking about a nice custom duraflex front bumper because of how ugly the stock front bumper is and an OE replacement is 350$ here and a duraflex one is like 220$.
A regular grille will fit on your sport, only the 99-01's are different

Wait, I'm confused why is this posted in Dakota section? I thought I posted it somewhere else? The truck is a 96 2500 v10.

hey, you got the same grille guard Im putting on. How do you like it? Did yours come with brackets or did you have to make your own? I bought mine used for $90 (steal!) without brackets. you got any pictures of how its mounted? I got a guy who is gonna build the brackets for me, would like to see how one is mounted rather then diagrams online i come across
