Default P0500

I have a 2000 Ram 2500 5.9L (gas) Auto 4x4.

My speedo either stays at 0 or bounces. My ABS, Brake, and Check engine light are on. My air bag light comes on and off as well. I hook up the scanner and it gives me the P0500 Speed sensor A, which I have replaced already.

I have replaced the speed sensor on the rear diff and the one on the tranny. I have also put in another computer on the firewall.

I am out of ideas as to what is going on with this truck.

The tranny seams confused because it likes to hang in gears a bit longer then finally decides to shift after i let off for a few seconds. This doesnt always happen though.

I have looked through a lot of forums but for most people replacing the speed sensors has fixed this issue. I also read something about a computer or something inside the dash that communicates all the info to the dash. Not sure about this one.

I am lost and I am tired of spending money on things that are not fixing the problems. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

-Kenden

You either got a bad sensor, or, there is a wiring issue. Speedometer on your truck gets its cue from the sensor in the rear diff. I would start with checking that the sensor is seated all the way, and the connector back there is clean. If that all looks good, get a warranty replacement for the sensor, and see if that doesn't improve its attitude any.

I just read on another thread that the computer will throw that code if you spin the tires. Well we just had a storm and of course the 35" tires like to slip every once in awhile.

Either way before the code was thrown I have had the same symptoms. It threw a code a couple months ago and thats what prompted me to start replacing sensors. The codes went away but the problems stayed there.

Now I have the code again because i spun the tires. They said that if I dont spin them for a little while the code will go away. I am just going to clear the code and drive it around again. Even though I still have the lights on and the speedo is out.

Thanks for the suggestions I will play with it again. I blew the connector and plug out with my air compressor and the needle still bounces.
