newbie in need of help
hi guys i have just picked up a 98 dodge ram 4x4 3/4 ton with the 5.9 magnum it had stock exhaust on it so i took it in and got a magnaflow dual exhaust system put in it and now its blowing blue when i rev it up but before i did the exhaust it wasnt doing this we did take the cat out aswell and he didnt put the 2nd 02 sensor back in instead he put it in a bag and zip tied it to the floor of the truck would this cause the blue smoke?? please help
if it is blue smoke, then the engine is burning oil. probably a leaky plenum plate. The plenum plate is the bottom of your intake manifold. Our intake manifolds are two piece designs. The intake is made of aluminum, and the plenum is steel.
You can get a plenum plate kit for $150 from hughesengines.com.
YOU CAN CHECK FOR A LEAKY PLENUM: Truck turned off
1. Take your plastic air cleaner off
2. Open the throttle body by moving the throttle
3. look down in there with a flashlight. If there is oil pooled down there, then it is your plenum plate.
It could be valveseals, but that would only give you blue smoke upon startup when your truck was sitting for a while. Then it would dissipate.
I would bet it is the plenum. It costs 150 for the parts and will take you about 4-6 hours. Good time to flush the coolant system with a good descaler and get a new thermostat.

That is indeed a bad plenum. Read the sticky thread and you should be all set.

I have a spare intake that you can bench prep so that it is ready for a swap out, I will be down in Kelowna on wed the 27 and could meet if you like. When you are done the swap just give me your old manifold, let me know.
holy crap im so stoked thanks guys i was stressing out hard over this for the last week im going to get it fixed thursday ill post a video of the new exhaust for you guys to hear it when its fixed thanks again
I only have one tip and I think a few guys on here might agree. If you are doing it yourself, and trust me you can, take it easy when you are removing the intake manifold bolts. Sometimes they like to weld themselves in place and can snap when removing. Usually they are easy to get out, but I had to pull my driver side head and take to machine shop after I broke off an ez-out trying to remove a broken bolt.
