I'm getting annoyed with the seat belt not retracting on the drivers side . I'm guessing the spring is weekening. It's a 98 1500, regular cab. Has anyone tried taking the retractor apart and winding the spring? or is a replacement availible?

Check LMC truck, or local junkyard, or...... heaven forbid.... the dealer. (make sure you bring your heart medicine with you when you ask the price though, and, if at all possible, be sitting down......)

 

I'm wondering if I could take the retractor out and open it up to put an additional turn on the spring to increase the tension then reassemble it. Has anyone any experience with doing that?
I rather not visit a dealer to purchase a new one.

 

My 98 does the same thing, but I'm looking to replace the whole seat since it's worn out anyway.
