How should I tackle this?
I agree with this. It's not just this truck, but really anything older.
Agreed on all accounts. It comes down to what I want to do with it and such. My thoughts are along these lines... I plan on buying a new car in the new future, but I still have a LOT of use for a truck. I was hoping to be able to "refresh" this truck so to speak IOT to keep a vehicle that is paid for and then have my car as a daily driver.
Agreed. If you are going to do radical things like a stroker upgrade, be ready for some serious money to come flying out of your bank account. I enjoy older vehicles just for the simple fact that car payments suck! And the upgrade in power may end up magnifying any weaknesses in the drivetrain, which will require more money. But trust me I am not trying to be a downer, building up vehicles to go faster and run stronger is a personally rewarding experience, but not a financially rewarding experience.
With that said, +1 to plenum fix and maintenance. That should help you see a bit of a performance boost and slow if not stop your oil consumption. Best of luck.
Hey All,
Just a quick thanks for all the advice and direction. The stroker build was killed off in the planning process; however, I have NOT put aside my Ram. It's old, yes, and it'll take money, but it's fully paid off and I like it and so I plan to continue with it.
I've been reading up on the Plenum fix and have started ordering parts including new water pump, timing chain and gear, etc, etc, etc and will probably jump into that in the next month thanks to the extremely wicked DIY's that are posted. Just wanted to close this off with a Thank You.
