bought a steering box
I have about 1/4 of a turn of play in my wheel. I've tightened my steering box and it loosened within a week. I checked the rock solid steering fix and I don't have any of the symtoms of that besides the play. My steering wheel doesn't move side to side and neither does my steering shaft. I asked a friend who is a mechanic and he said he is 100% sure it's the steering box. So I ordered one. Got it today. How hard is it to install? now sure if I want to tackle it or just have him do it.
Fairly easy, a few bolts, fluid lines, and the shaft.... Just make sure you bleed all the air out of the system before you drive it on the road.
Jack up the front end, and support it on jackstands. (tires off the ground, so, no load on the steering box.)
Fill the p/s reservoir with fluid, start the engine, and turn the wheels from lock to lock a couple times.
Let it sit till the fluid is actually fluid again, and not whipped full of air.
Repeat.....
Keep doing that until you have smooth steering feel, and aren't getting any more air whipped into the fluid. THEN take it for a drive.
