Default egr valve or plenum gasket

Twice my 98 ram has almost run out of oil..With under 500 miles it has used 4 qts of oil..No trace of oil smoke or smell or leaks..It has 120k? miles on it,which will add that the engine was just replaced about 5 months ago with a used engine. But my Intake was reused.(evenidently they didnt check the gasket)..A mechanic that i know and has alot of experience said to check the egr valve..I just wanted to get some comments before i tore into it..Thanks Alot.

You won't find an egr valve on your truck. It doesn't have one. EGR no matter what failure mode, won't cause oil consumption either. You need to check your plenum, that is about the only thing I can think of that would give you the "stealth, disappearing oil" symptoms you have. Sounds like my truck.... I could go thru three quarts a week, without a problem.
