2001 ram 4x4 5.2L whining noises
Well, I got the tranny fluid straightened around, and over the weekend, my engine light was blinking, showung numerous misfires. I took it to the dealer I bought it from, and asked him if it was a plenum issue. He informed me this truck didn't have a plenum, but a full throttle body. I asked again, and he insisted there is no plenum gasket on this truck. How would you take it from here ??
It is a small dealer, and I probably should have known better, but I have been without a truck too damn long, and this caught my eye. I have only owned it a few weeks, and it is showing it's true colors. It runs great, but it has had the blinking engine light now a few times. It only does it when I really get on it on a hill, or once with a load. It doesn't spit or sputter, and seems to mantain power throughout. The service guy is trying to sell me an extended warranty, but I think I will take my chances. My 1000 mile warranty is up in about 300 miles, so I hope I will just take it as it goes.
P.S. Oh ya, he said "the whining noise up front is probably a bearing in a pulley.....another reason to buy the warranty". LMAO

Yeah...... before your warranty runs out, make yourself a laundry list of issues, (have a look thru here for common issues, even you even REMOTELY suspect you have one of them, make sure you include it on your laundry list, and take it in to have those issues dealt with under warranty. For those that they just say "could not duplicate" or some such nonsense, you will at least have documentation that you brought it in for that problem WHILE it was under warranty, and you might get the issue addressed. (that will probably only work for a month or three, and another couple hundred miles though....)
I would suggest having a look at some of the stuff yourself first. Plenum being right up there on the list..... so when you take it in, you can tell 'em, Hey, there's a buttload of oil in the intake, that ain't right, please fix that.

I would be all over that extended warrenty, get it. HeyYou has you coverd for advice with the dealer, don't back down at the dealership get the repairs that are needed and more if you can. TEST that trany real good!!! wink wink nudge nudge.

OK, so how clean should the bottom be inside the throttle body ?? I opened it up, and it is pretty clean, but there is some black spatter of some sort in the middle. I am getting my list ready. I have some play in my passenger front tire also I plan on complaining about. I also have a pending evap code...what WTH does that mean ??
I just took off the airbox, and looked thru the "I am assuming" butterflies. I don't know how comfortable I would feel doing any more, or atleast just yet. I am fairly mechanically inclined, but limited in experience, and depth of repairs. I have owned jeeps for the last 20 years, with a 1/2 Chevy for a work/wood truck for a couple of years. I have no problem with venturing further, but would rather wait until I am done dealing with this particular dealer/service shop, in case I run into complications. I don't want them to know I am touching anything just in case they would use it to get out of standing behind "their" truck. I am really on the fence as far as the extended warranty. They certainly havn't been very helpful up till now, I don't see why they would be any better for another $1000. It almost seems like the money would be better spent paying for parts, and buying whatever tools I may lack to do the job.(but this may be the guy in me making excuses to buy tools)..LMAO !!!
When you guys are talking about adjusting tranny bands, tuners, and such, that kinda scares the crap out of me, but so does my wife, and I still seem to tick her off....so who knows. My 1 month/1000 mile is up pretty soon, so I think I will rid myself of these people before it stresses me further.

Well, I loaded the 4-wheeler onto the truck, and took it for a spin. You wouldn't even know it was on the back. I went to a particular hill with good incline. The truck had great power, but the engine started blinking again. No hesitation, no spit and sputter. I went to advanced auto to plug in their unit, and it had No codes stored. What could be cuasing this.? Thanks for any replies.
blinking CEL is a misfire detected. They don't always store codes.
Cheapest fix is hopi e it just needs a tune up, our route the 5 & 7 plug wires far away from each other.
more expensive is the dreaded plenum gasket failure.
