Grinding noise except in 4wd yet 4wd doesn't work

I also found that the two wires (red and black) that go into the metal ones that provide the vacuum for the 4wd has pratixally no vacuum. I followed it upstream and it goes into the tc. How do I find where the problem is?

So I found the culprit was two burned holes in the vacuum lines and a ton of dirt in the lines. So I think I fixed it, thanks for the help everyone!

Did you look at that link for 4x4 engagement? If not I suggest you do so and confirm all is good.
