It is not my daily driver but I do drive it to town every now and then, my thinking was that it would be nice to know that when i shift into 4wd that i know for sure it is in 4wd. because I personally hate all the vacuum BS. right now i think i have a problem with the actuator because i am getting vacuum to it but it will still not go into 4wd.

just get the posiloc that dhvaughan linked to in this thread and get it. it will save you money and time and more money. i just had this happen a couple weeks ago cause my cad unit got stuck in the locked position. your u joints WILL fail and the driveshaft will let go. dont go cheap just to get around the cad unit, get a posiloc. once its installed you pull the cable and shift into 4hi, or 4lo and its locked in. you can even use it as 2lo when you dont pull the cable.

When doing this cable operated idea, do u need to disconnect the vacuum lines and plug them?

Just plug the main supply line going to the vac switch. I think the kit comes with one even IIRC.

no it didnt get stuck in 4wd, the cad unit got stuck locked in. t-case was in 2hi. cad unit getting stuck locked in cause the front driveshaft to turn, which cause the u joint to fail, which caused the driveshaft to fail.

getting the posilok part that you mentioned is going to do the same thing and keep the axles locked in and will destroy your u joint and driveshaft.

just get the posilok that is cable operated and like i said previously save you money time and more money. dont skimp out on it, you will thank us in the end.

you do need to plug the vac lines to avoid a vac leak. you can plug the supply line going to the t-case, or plug the 2 lines at the cad. either is fine.

Just curious but why would the driveshaft spinning cause the u joint to fail?

i use 4 hi in the snow in the winter when needed, so does that mean i should expect a failure? i am just confused as to why the driveshaft spinning would cause a u joint failure.

in the snow is fine, its on drive pavement that you have to worry about it.

It doesn't. His u-joints were already bad, having the front driveshaft turning all of the time will wear them out vs not being used.

There are plenty of factory trucks (including mine) with live front axles, it's not a big deal.
