Default Are Bosch o2's really THAT bad?

i see where people have said they are the devil and nothing but a POS.

only reason i ask is that advance auto (and for that matter no one else in town) carries the NTK pre cat and im in need of some quick like.

worse case i'll suck it up and pay the damn $8 shipping for it and get it next week

go to a dealer and get OE.. Densco makes 'em.. may be more, but will pay for itself money wise in the long run, and frustration wise in the short term..

yes, Bosch is of the devil.. as far as our trucks are concerned, that is.. I've had them bad right out of the box, I've had them NOT throw codes (fault) but not do what they are 'sposed to do (allowed very rich conditions), and I've had them go bad in less than 1000 miles.. Most part stores are unsympathetic to this, and won't return o2's once they've been opened.. The smart bet is NTK or Densco.. You -may- run into a Bosch that works, but it's touch and go.

how can you tell they go bad, i.e. what symptoms do you experience.

Don't know if the conditions caused by frequently failing plenum gaskets or even cracking heads puts them through more hell than other vehicles and the Bosches just aren't up to it. I've had a Bosch in my truck for a while now with no problems but I don't have a blown plenum gasket or cracked head or anything like that.

I'd expect that when they go bad the engine can't go into closed loop and will throw some code. I've nt experienced it myself however.

yeah i called the local dealer and he said that the only ones they have are "mopar" brand....to the tune of $94 each.

the only reason i was trying to stay with advance is i have an online coupon code for $50 off $100. since im in the process of doing the plenum and tune-up i figured id go ahead and grab some new o2's since they would come out to be sorta like BOGO free.

w/o a code- running too rich is the biggest culprit.. running rough when all other possibilities has been eliminated. bad fuel management (mileage)... easiest: get a OBDII reader, and watch the short term fuel curves and timing adjustments.. if they don't make sense, there are only a few creatures that cause that.. upwind o2's, IAT's, MAP's, and temperature sensors.. the others can be eliminated with the same software (with the exception of the temp sensor), and there you go..

with a code, it's easy..

I'm at work effin off- and I'm sitting right next to a dude who's girlfriend is the parts manager at a dealership.. we talk about this all the time..

those guys at the dealership are across the board in parts prices. they set the retail themselves, as opposed to a MSRP...

what I'd suggest is to call another dealership and ask, or search for them online.

I run a cali rig, and HAD to order them.. through the dealership, they wanted over $130 each, and I need two.. I ordered them from sparkplugs, and paid $40 each.. they are NTK instead of Densco, but DANG..

I'd get the NTK's from rock auto, they are real good with shipping fast.

I got a denso off Amazon.com for around $30 with free shipping. I've had bad luck with bosch on some other vehicles I've owned and won't buy them at all for anything I own. Usually ntk or denso - whichever is cheaper.
