Default Programmer question

So i found a hppIII on craigslist yesterday for 135 bucks. Met with the guy today and tried to install it on my truck before paying him for it. It would go to 99% and then it would say calibration not found. it was a hypertech power programmer III #50005 and on the box it said 2000 dodge truck/van. Mine is a 2001 and he said his was also a 2001 and I could watch him program his truck with it, with no issues. I made sure he was setting his back to stock so it wouldn't be vin locked.

I didn't nose around his truck since i didn't know him. So I'm unsure if it was a 2000 or a 2001. When I search for it for my year it comes up as a 50006. think he was lying to me and his truck was a 2000?

Just trying to figure this out before i buy and SCT tommorrow. He claims its because my battery is old and the voltage was dropping too low while it was programming. What yall think?

I think you should just buy the SCT, and get a good tune, as opposed to the minor tweaks that HyperTech does.

You will like the sct tune better than the ht tune, and the difference will be worth having to wait a bit more for new rims.

Unless of course you are also going with oversize tires. One of very few reasons to go with the HT. The SCT doesn't do speedo correction.

I plan on getting some bigger tires someday. but I drive like an old man anyways. speedo correction wouldn't be that big of a deal to me. I live in indianapolis and most people drive around here like they are trying out for the 500.

Did find a good bit of information on hppIII just now though.

the seller was a liar.
good move on your part not buying it.

50005 is for year 2000 ONLY.
50006 is for year 2001 ONLY.

i have a 50006 for 2001 that i used for about 2 or 3 years.
it has some timing advance that cures the death flash and exposes the leaking plenum via the spark knock. lol.
the PP i have would not reprogram my speedo for some mysterious reason. that always pissed me off. other people use them successfully, so i never knew what my problem was.

i bought a superchips new/old/refurb from a programmer company on ebay and am a lot happier with it. it reprogrammed speedo and OD shift speed like it was supposed to.

if you really want a hypertech pm me and i'll sell you mine cheap.
