Default 1995 trans problems

i have aquired a 1995 dodge ram1500 w/318ci. the trans slips occasionally but the big problem is that when i put it in drive unless i rev it to at least 1800rpms it stalls. could this just be a burnt up torque converter or an overall trand problem? and also is there a way to find out without just tearing it all down ?

Try cleaning the TB and replacing the IAC and TPS sensors.
