I wouldn't worry about it.

Well I put it back together and now the real axle seal leaks like a sieve.

Le sigh.

How much shop time should I expect to pay for this to be someone else's problem? I just got a damn boat and summer is running out!

The rear seal is way easier than the fronts. And will you please add all the info about your truck to your sig?

Drivers or passenger side?

yep. classic problem.
pull the axles to do the u-joints. shove em back in. now the real seals leak.
its really a ****ty design.

so now he gets to take the whole **** ****ing front end back apart, including pulling the carrier out and cleaning all the crap out of the axle tubes. replace two $8 seals. then put the whole **** ****ing thing back together.

it really shouldn't be that hard !!!

Yup, needless to say I'm pissed.

Since this is the passenger side, is the seal easier to change on account of the CAD box?

Yea, but a special tool is required. Some people make there own, but usually end up pulling it apart 5 times until they get the seal seated properly. Name: qk4620002.jpg

yes and no.

yes, its easier because you only have to remove one side, and you don't have to remove the carrier.

but - the passenger side is the harder one to seat the seal. i made a big washer the exact size of the seal's outer ring, but that wouldn't get stuck in the cavity. someone else used one of the seal driver tools from a kit and said that worked good.

mine's not as pretty as zman's.
