Default mechanical fan removed power increase

Wondering if any body has the dyno proven results for the mechanical fan power robbing numbers. I am doing a dyno run in the morning fo my baseline; spectre CAI, flowmaster duel exhaust with muffler delete.

Two weeks out will be the next run for the dyno proven test results hopeful to get the real numbers. butt dyno in my grand cherokee says WHOLE-E-**** what a difference.

two weeeks after that I should be doing same test for better accuracy for sct tuner with; Spectre CAI, 52MM throttle body, Hughes FI airgap, pacesetter shorty headers, new O2 sensors, and new catalytic convertor, (Muffler TBD,).

truck info 116,000 miles on the 5.9l gas auto trans full tune up done between 90 and 100 thousand, fluids all but engine done about the same time, engine done 1250miles ago. 4.10 gears with 31-32inch tires.
much appreciated.

well dyno done and the numbers are in 215hp and 295lbs/ft. duel E fan up next as soon as the stuff arrives. I will see what the real number of loss is at the wheels for the mechanical fan. so far the best I have gotten for mileage is about 13 to 13.5mpgs. 55-62 the whole way for 3hrs and 30 minutes 178 miles or so.

It's about time that some one who said they were getting dyno numbers actually did it. This info you are going to provide , is going to make more than a few people happy. Good job, keep the info flowing.

for whatever value this adds to this thread:

I've researched this to a degree enough to satisfy my curiosity.. and have my own experience to add to it which says it's true.. the 'gains' power wise are real, but not very significant.. the best improvement will be in 60ft times, as the parasitic loss is just above idle to about 1kRPM's.. this is a damn good thing for torque, if you're tugging or hauling, and better to allow quicker revs, as the parasitic losses hurt the most where the engine produces the least torque..

you'll certainly notice off the line improvement.. that is real and quantifiable- but you'll have to look at your dyno graph carefully to see it.. it isn't going to help you at all in the power curve because the drag is constant.. it absolutely will be visible in the low end though.. likely, before the dyno starts graphing though.. you'll have to look there to see it.. I've seen numbers for different rigs adding anywhere from 20#'s of torque to around 30#'s.. that is a helluva bump.. your HP will be basically unaffected.

edited to add: don't take my word for it.. I'm a D-bag troll, and don't even turn my own wrenches..

Although I still tried to help out. The comment made in that thread was directed to more than one person. I suggest you let it go, and go to user CP and hit the ignore button.

dang.... I was just goofin!! Life is way too short to hold anything against anyone.. that's why my motto is "if you **** me off enough, I'm just going to kill you right there, otherwise, it ain't worth holding onto.."

seriously, I should never have let it rub me wrong either.. we're all good here.

and that dyno should show a decent bump in low end torque.. I'm looking forward to seeing it too!!

The clutch fan also robs varying amounts of power, depending how hot it is and therefore how much it's locked up. I can say my truck is a total turd when the weather is in the 90s and hotter, the clutch starts to lock up and it feels like 15-20hp just vanished.

So you're likely going to measure just the gain of when the fan is mostly freewheeling, compared to the much higher potential gain when it's locked up and moving a lot of air.

I can't wait for my Grand Cherokee fan to show up and get it installed.

Something is off with those dyno numbers.

What kind of dyno was it?

The stock dodge 5.9L engine puts out 245HP, and 330 ft/lbs of torque. Drive train loss is 25.6%. Hp and torque numbers are too high.
