sorry to bring this thread up again, but i finally got around to ordering my reclocking ring. but the kit didnt come with the seal adapter, and in the directions it says to skip to step #8(how to install the adapter) if your not installing it. so do i need it? and why would they have said that if i do need it?

Alright, looking at the pretty pictures.... The purpose of the seal adapter is to move the rear trans seal out further, as it actually seals around the transfer case input do-hickey. With the clocking ring in place, check and see how much of that snout will be available to go into the seal, if there isn't much, without the adapter, you may end up with a leak....

so should i try and install it without the adapter and see how it goes? or should i get it? that stupid thing costs $70!!

Measure it out, and see how much of that snout will be sticking into the seal. If it goes all the way thru it yet, don't worry about it, if it barely sticks into it, get the adapter. Anything in between, yer gonna have to call it.

I know this is kind of asking the same thing over but...
Does anyone know for sure that these Dana 300 NP208/241 clocking rings are compatible with my NP231 transfer case? http://diy4x.com/cart/index.php?rout...&product_id=64

I can't really find any solid info on anything but the Skyjacker ones.

I'm looking into a 7" suspension lift-piecing it together myself (possibly adding spacers/blocks or shackle flip sometime down the road) and I'm sure I'll have to index the t-case. Just looking for a cheaper alternative to Skyjacker.

edit: also just sent DIY4X.com an email regarding this same question. Hopefully they reply and I'll let you know what they say. But still if anyone has some input, that'd be great.

You are much better off buying a complete kit, that has been engineered to work on your truck, rather than getting random parts to lift it........ yeah, it's a bit more money in the short term, but, long-term, it will probably cost LESS for repairs to other components that you won't need to do....... that, and the safety factor.......

I've seen you tell many people this... And Idk I've heard the opposite (and seen it for that matter). I'm buying basically everything a skyjacker kit would have minus the expensive long arms (will have adj arms fab'd up) and the poorly made track bar. Their kit also includes parts that aren't necessarily interchangeable with more lift. I don't see how buying the lift type parts (coils, blocks, AALs, or shackle flip) separately could be a problem, they all work the same together. other things like tracbar or pitman arm are a different story but I've read about many setups that use what im gonna use and no ones had much of a problem. Paying $2800+ for a skyjacker is unnecessary when I can use a better track bar and custom long arms and shave off $1000+ But thanks for your input.
