Default Success Story

So I recently inherited my dads 01 1500 with the 360. He gave the truck to me so don't get all sad.

Anyway, it has been worked to hell all it's life. Hadn't had a tune up since 100k(currently at 200k miles) an oil change in a good while. And had a pretty nasty miss in it. Especially at idle and low RPM.

Despite all this, it still drove "ok" and never left me anywhere. Except when the 7 year old battery finally went out. But that's not it's fault.

A $80 trip to Advance Auto for some wires and Champion plugs (only way to go). And a cap and rotor. Distributor too I guess. It runs GREAT unbelievably better. The rotor had a huge groove where it was jumping and messing the timing up.

I've had the compression checked and they're all still great, around 9-10 to 1 for every one. Even wear also.

So I changed the oil yesterday also. Spilled a little on the valve cover so that smell ain't quite gone yet. So my tune up is nearly complete. I need to get a ignition coil or whatever next.

So what do I need do next?

Looking at a CAI, headers and possibly a high flow cat. Already have flowmasters. Although I don't know what kind. And dad can't remember. A while down the road tho.

I'm aware of the plenum issue but 4.5 quarts came out of the pan yesterday and it has never ate oil. Also have no apparent issues from the plenum. Will check when I get the CAI and look down the throttle body while attaching the thing.

Long first post I know, but Ive been stalking this website for a while and finally joined. Lots and lots of great help and info

Oh and I've changed both u joints on the driveshaft, and haven't had any tranny issues yet.(hopefully will stay that way)

Good deal man. One thing though, when you do the CAI, get a TB gasket and remove it to check the plenum. Don't just look down the butterflies. Use a mirror and flashlite to look all around inside.

Can I get one at advance auto? And thanks I've heard about the mirror and flashlight but not actually removing the TB

also when u got the TB off. go ahead and clean it up and clean the IAC, its the one on the backside of the TB if your looking at it. just take the 2 screws out and clean the passageway and clean the needle but dont move it or bend it, pretty much just spray it . helps with idle at cold starts, if you get a slight "cam" idle...

The one I saw at advance auto was about 60 a pop I think. Anyway, I don't think I have a plenum issue, somehow, but I very well could. Need to get that CAI so I can check the TB ha
