Default question about towing

I have a 1999 1500 5.9 with factory tow pack (trans cooler,hights,lights) and

I have a 13' Shasta camper weighs about 1250 lbs the book isn't clear

do I towing with OD on or off?

Theres not many steep hills around here.

I do all my towing with OD off, The engine bogs too much with OD on and it puts a real strain on your tranny. Dodge isnt known to have the greatest transmissions.

downhill on, flat or uphill you should have it off.

PS it's a 5.2, not 5.0

I'd say off all the time.

Dodge's trans are hit and miss for the automatic. I wouldnt want to stress it anymore than need be.

Make sure you are changing your trans fluid alot too when you tow.

I dont have the automatic but I used to change them every 20000 miles. I over maintain all my stuff.

I never waited that long after I would make a trip or 2 I would change it I have to keep it going cause i dont want no more payments

Thats smart. Transfluid is cheap... Even smarter if you invested in the trans pan with the drainplug built in.
