Default 95 Ram smokes when I decelerate

Been a couple years since I've posted a question but i have an issue that maybe someone can help me with. I have a 95 ram 1500 4x4 5.2 with 193,000 miles. I recently gutted a clogged cat, removed and cleaned the TB and installed new plugs, wires, dist. cap and roter butten. The problem now is it smokes from the exhaust when I let off the accelerater going down hill or coming to a stop. It doesn't smoke when idling or cruising. If I shift to neutral going down hill it doesn't smoke.

My first thought is the piston rings are wearing out. But I'm also wondering if a blown plenum gasket could be the problem. It's never been replaced and the truck is using a lot of oil. I looked for oil pools when I had the TB off but it didn't look that bad. It was black but not wet looking. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Look around inside the intake manifold with a lite and a small mirror. You need to see the sides and corners. Other than that, worn rings can do that. Get a compression test.

Might be valve seals as well. Coasting is a high manifold vacuum occupation, so, if the seals are bad, it can suck oil right around the intake valve.

Does it smoke when you first start it after a day or so?

It doesn't smoke when I start it even after sitting for a day. I'll run a compression check next. I appreciate the input.

More'n likely blown plenum then.
