What Brand of Fans do you have ? The wires should not be that small , 10ga is ideal.

2 Hayden fans
Sorry Buddy , guess I read that too fast , I thought just the controller was Hayden . 16 ga wire is way too small with the amount of current they draw . I find that strange . I have FF Dynamics fans and they came with 10 ga wire. They never get hot at all , wet and muddy a lot , but never hot .

Haydens are usually lower RPM fans that don't put out as much CFM as FF Dynamics or Flex-a-Lite fans, but they are generally cheaper too.

What models are they (and/or how much CFM do they put out?)?

Not sure of model# I think CFMS are 2200 16" fans
I know they are cheaper (on a budget) but they should not get so damn hot.

Fans should come with wire that can handle the load, but if you can rewire them all the way up to the motor on the fan, go for it.
Be careful though, as some fans are wired with a specific type of wire made for high amp loads, it may appear thinner, but it's adequate. That type of wire is usually wrapped in a cloth weave type material.

Whatever you do, don't just snip the ends near the motor and wire thicker wire to a thinner wire. That will just introduce resistance to the circuit and cause more heat at the splice point.

I didn't want to say much because I feared that I would make you mad, but Hayden fans aren't known for their quality. And I couldn't find a Hayden fan more powerful than 1600 CFMs or so.
