Default My brakes really work to well!!

I have a 96 1500 short bed standard cab with the 5.9. It has 103,000 miles. The previous owner had new brakes installed on the front and back about 2 years and 13,000 miles ago. I have all the receipts. Are they supposed to be this touchy? As I am slowing down on a busy freeway behind other vehicles, if I give it a little more pedal it comes to a complete halt really quick. Is this normal for this truck and newish parts or am I missing something? Thanks

At least they're working...lol....have you tried taking some adjustment OUT of the rears? If not, try that and see if you can get it more manageable.

Your truck is a rare breed. Almost everyone on here has crappy factory brakes that take forever to stop. The only time I've heard of them being that touchy was when fellow 2nd genners do the "brake mod" where you install ram dually wheel cylinders on 1/2 ton and 3/4 ton rigs.

I have no problems either, of course I don't tow anything. Just got done doing a DIY for front pads and adjusted the rears while I was at it. The thing stops on a dime. Well, maybe a dollar bill.

That's because your front brakes have dual calipers to stop it. The rest of us "regular folk" have a crappy single caliper to "stop" us.

They get really touchy when the wheel cylinders are leaking. Look at the inside of the rims and the back of the drums to see if they're wet with brake fluid.
