Default Still loosing oil?

My truck is having an oil consumption issue still, I have burned almost five quarts of oil in the past 2 months since I last changed it. I have done the plenum fix and other goodies( see sig) and the truck runs super, super smooth. I have have noticed a little bit of blue smoke every once and a while at start up or during a long idle..but that is very seldom. Could this be valve seals? New rings? I know these older trucks burn a little oil, and will have some blow by, but something is odd. I plan on doing a head and cam swap next summer, so I should take care of the valve seal issue if there is one.

PS..no visible leaks.

You can replace the valve seals now and that might stop the burning oil. It's actually pretty simple and if that is where the leak it's you might prevent damage that comes from not enough oil.

That volume of oil consumption, it has to be going somewhere. Check for leaks first. The bit of blue smoke at startup is indeed valve seals, but, the guides would have to be pretty bad for valve seals to account for that much consumption.

Do a compression test. Post your dry/wet results.

Replace your PVC valve with one from the dealer. Aftermarket units don't always have the correct flow rate.

As soon as I can get away from school I will do the compression test. The PVC valve is pretty darn nasty and brittle, Ill get that replaced asap! Could that account for loosing that much oil?

Depends, if it's stuck wide open or not(that's a lot though). I think it's more of a combination of things. Take a look down the TB again. And inspect the plugs obviously when you do the compression test.

Will do, I looked down into it not to long ago and it was still clean. But for giggles I will do it again. Someone had changed the plenum gasket a while back, since it still didnt look blown, just had bad oil consumption, and more carbon build up than anyone knows built up on the intake manifold. But it should be sealed tighter than a frogs butt...Its to bad im off to school and dont have job right now....I would have me a new set of Clearwaters other wise.

I know what your sig says, but was the plate replaced or just the gasket?

Sorry, should have cleared that up...the mechanic that owned the truck prior to me replaced the gasket before I had bought the truck, years ago most likely...I replaced the faulty pan, new bolts, and gaskets in June of this year. When I was in it in june the gasket wasnt blown, but there was PLENTY of carbon and what looked like oil build up..but the gasket was still in tact...
