Default 95 Ram 2WD 1500 auto trans problem/interchange

I am new on here and have been reading some older discussions about these transmissions and how they can interchange in and out between other years and between 5.2's and 5.9's. Anyway I have a 95 Ram 1500 2WD 5.2 engine. I put it in and I guess the front seal was leaking. It was supposed to have been changed, but i guess not. I drove it for about 50 miles and it leaked enough out to act up. I came to a stop sign and went to take off, I was going easy on it and it revved up a little, maybe 3-400 rpm's, and when it caught it was really rough and grinded a little. It didn't just kick in like a normal trans would have done. I stopped for a second and put some fluid in it. I don't know how much it was low or anything it was midnight and dark. I just put a quart of so in it. I went on the road I was on and it hung going into second gear and seemed to me like it broke a band. But after that it seems to be doing ok now. It scares me a little now that it has done that. I took it w=out today to put the seal in it. I noticed that the converter says for 1996 years. It came out of a 95, but it might have been put in that one as it was in a junk yard. So, the question is, with this one out and that said, what transmissions year and motor combo can i use to put back in this thing? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you all very much.

Does it matter between 5.2 and 5.9? I was reading also that there was no difference between the gas transmissions. Is that true? Also i read that 1500 or 2500 trans would work as well.

Yes, the same. Only difference in the early models is, you should probably use the TC from a 5.2 if that's what is in your truck.

You have a 46RH tranny

One more thing bothering me is that when i pulled the trans the torque converter said for model year 1996 only. Whats up with that? LIke i said this tranny came from a junk yard and the tq was in it. I didn't have a transmission at all when i bought the truck, it went out and they junked it. So, I was forced to use the one that was with the tranny of the donor truck. Is there a way to tell if this is right or will it make a difference in anything?

If it was me I would get a new TC, even if I was installing a used trany.

You can use the trans from any 94-95 GAS engined ram. Weight rating doesn't matter, they all got the same trans. Torque converters ARE different though, so t/c out of truck that had a 5.9 won't work. Don't re-use yours, if your trans went out. All you will do is hurry the death of your next trans.....

Default Tranny swap issue

I have a 1996 1500 Sport, that I bought used. Guy said he had tranny rebuilt and it looks like it has been but what he failed to tell me was that the housing on the starter somehow broke off inside and instead of getting parts out he just put in a new starter. Tranny started acting up and then started whining then 3 days later went out at stop sign. went and found a transmission with the number 064-2 on the bell housing. pulled mine and it says 064-3 and has a slightly different tail with a plug at back. Can someone enlighten me on differences in trannies and let me know if I can make this one work? hate to be out 300.00 Im already barely making it.
