I wouldn't go crazy spending a lot on an alarm. I bought a dei online for $40 for my blazer. It's nice to have keyless entry and starter kill. 2 other things I did when we wired it up is hook it up to go off with the interior lights so if someone checks to see if the door is unlocked it will go off and hooked it up so if the hood is opened at all it will go off - just in case they tried to cut the wires to the siren.

I think I'm going to go to best buy like chadhager03 said. If I can remember correctly the audio/security place's price was $300 installed, I think. I know a lot of you say it's worthless to have one but I think it's more of the piece of mind for me.

Personally I think radios should come with like a gps thing built in and if its stolen and u registered it. U call up the manufacturer and give them the serial number and they can tell u whenever its powered on where its at or give u a website link to track it on and this way u can get the deck back or have them do something and it fries out the deck so its no longer functional .... id pay the little extra to either get it back or to have the satisfaction that the deck is now nothing more than a paper weight to them.. it would be even better if it blow their speakers at the same time. But that my opinion

I have an alarm so it wakes ME up I could care less if it wakes the neighbors up. My driveway is right next to my bedroom so I hear it when it goes off.

Keep in mind, Best Buy's prices (on their tags) include basic installation of the unit. There may be a relay or a bypass here or there they'll need to charge you for to.

The alarms that have a key FOB that beep at you when it goes off are called 2-way units. They send a signal and receive confirmation back (or vice versa). I work at Best Buy for the moment, so I got my wife the high end Viper unit with remote start (on her 2006 Durango). She likes it a lot, especially come winter.

Best Buy also sells OnStar now, where they replace your mirror with an OnStar mirror. Those come with a GPS unit that can be tracked if stolen.

Ya that's true, I had to spend an extra $25 dollars or so when I picked it up. With the hurricane windows on our house you can't hear anything outside.

I did the same thing in my Blazer with my subs....bolted them to the floorboard in the back,,,,had ro remove the subs to get the box out of it...same with my Phoenix Gold amp...

I have an excalibur alarm with remote start and its real nice it came with a sensor for the hood but since Im not worried about anyone stealing my motor I hooked it up to my toolbox.

Its pretty sensitive and also has remote start.

It has 2 remotes one with the little LCD and pages when the alarm is going off so even if your in your room sleeping it will wake you and you can go running out in your boxers to watch the cat scurry away, ask me how I know?
