Default car alarms

I was looking into them a couple months ago and then forgot about it. But, I was reading about them on the 3rd gen section. I was wondering what anyone on here has or have had for alarms. The reason I'm looking is during school months I live in an apartment building in a city. The truck has a 7" flip-up dvd headunit, and old amp, and 2 kicker C-10's. But, my main problem is the sub box a bought stick out a good amount from under the rear seat, it's easily seen if you look in the window. So I am looking into alarms. I'm on a budget right now because I'm about to get my licence (I'm 16) and insurance is high. I went to the car audio/security place my family has been going to for years and I was recommended the crime guard 650 or higher. Any opinions?

Honestly the alarm isnt going to stop someone from stealing your stereo system. I got two 1000w 12"s and a 1600w Amp stolen with an alarm, they just werent able to start it. No one cares about your alarm going off these days. If I were you I would bring it to an upholstery shop and have them come up with some kind of cheap way of covering it. Also I learned my lesson after mine were stolen I took out all screws mounting my amp/sub and put in screws that you cant take off without a special bit (they have squares, triangles, diamonds). Just make it time consuming to steal so worst thing you get is a broken window. just my two cents.

Yeah, alarms were to sensitive and unreliable for too long, an alarm going off is just ignored now. Sure, it might hurry the thieves along, but, they still get your stuff, and trash your truck. I just don't leave anything valuable in the truck, and don't even bother to lock it. Not like a locked door even slows them down, they just smash a window.

well other people might not bother to look outside for an alarm, but they wake up up at night. And from my room I can see the whole parking lot.

Yeah but 75% of the alarms can be "scanned" while they are sitting in your parking lot waiting for you and disarmed while your sleeping. Just saying. Make sure the stuff is hard to get out (cheap) and hard to see (cheap). Then spend the money on the annoying alarm that you may or may not hear. My favorite is the alarm of the woman screaming HELP ME!!! HELLLLLPPP!!!

I'm rocking a clifford something rather series with remote start. I love it during the winter. Nice and hot by the time I get in.

The viper comes with a blue light I could probably read with if it didn't blink. I'd also suggest buying the one that beeps on the keychain when it goes off or get the smartphone one that makes your phone go off. The viper also has great range. The only complaints are the lock and unlock button are the same so if you can't here or see your car you can't tell if you're locking or unlocking it. You also can't open the doors/start it without the little beeper. Other than that for $200 you can't beat the price. But I agree, alarms are really pointless to a thief. My friends set mine off by filling up my bed with trash at 3 am and No one in my house and no neighbors came knocking on my door. Any thief could have taken my system or anything else.

I had a buddy that did the special bolt tip idea, he also had the sub box bolted under the seats to the cab and the only way to get to the bolts was to take each sub out to get access to them and then reseal it again when he had to take them out . He also custom made a diamond plated radio install kit and had a rear support mount for his deck that was bolted in so even that couldn't get taken easy ...
