The "mental" is a whole different issue. Like I used to tell people, "it's all in your head"

I can just see a customer going to a shop with engine trouble, the tech asks "Are you sure it's not just in your head"?

Well how about people that don't put a 5 dollar plug in their tranny pan?

I was only picking on the mental comment. But it is pretty stupid to not install a $5 drain plug too.

Don't get all politically correct on me about the mental thing, I was just joking with J415 about his spelling error.

Changing tranny fluid is a PITA no matter what it is. That's why I loved my Cherokee, drain plug, and when I first bought it, I literally changed the ATF every week at first. When I bought it, the fluid was brown as mud water. The AW4 tends to cook oil. I was able to "flush" the trans over the period of a month without ever breaking the seal on it.

Now, as to the Ram transmission, I saw somewhere it's recommended that the bands be adjusted. Is this true? Anyone done this? IIRC, my Grand Cherokee had the same or similar transmission (46RHE) and didn't call for band adjustments.

That is correct. The Ram comes with the 46RE tranny and what I have heard from transmissions people is that the bands come too loose from the factory and have a tendency to break loose over time. This is why they say to adjust the bands. I haven't adjusted mine yet (I was too chicken to do it last time) but may do it next time. The last time I changed the fluid I was too scared to screw something up, and since it has been good to me so far, I left well enough alone. I didn't install a drain plug either, but definitely will do next time. I have never adjusted the bands on any transmission I have owned, but I guess there's a first time for everything.

According to the manual, they are suppose to adjusted every 24,000 miles.
