Default Just Changed Oil, have a few questions

Just put in 5 quarts of 5w-30 and installed a new filter. Oil was pretty black and had some sludgy bits in it...I also noticed a few small metal fragments.......Should I be concerned about those..?

I put in 5 quarts and around 4 quarts came out, so I am burning some, I recently did my plenum though so im hoping that cured some or all of the burning.

My Questions:

1. Should the metal fragments in the oil be concerning..? The funnel I was using to put the old oil into a container had a screen on it, when I drained the oil through there were just a few smell metal fragments in the screen.

2. Does anyone sell a replacement dipstick for our trucks? it really sucks...Sometimes ill check and it will be close to Add, sometimes almost right up to the top of the safe mark.

3. After just doing my oil change im right in the middle of the "safe" area, is that normal? or should it be higher up?

You didn't change the oil after the plenum fix?

Well you should have, but anyway, that's probably garbage that fell down in there when you did the plenum.

Ahhh, that does make sense.

How about the level being midway in the "safe" area on the dipstick? is that normal? 5 Quarts went in, I have taken it for a good drive just now and checked for leaks, there are none.

I used to have to put 5.5 quarts in my 98. If the stick is in all the the reading must be right.

Just got back from a 30 min drive, checked the level after being shut off for 10-15 mins, its about 3/4 of the way up the safe zone.

Should I add to fill the entire safe zone? or am I good?

Sorry for the newbie questions, just my first oil change on this truck, and want to be sure.

I have to usually put 5.25 to 5.5 quarts in as well.

Thats weird...Some people were telling me that it actually took slightly less than the full 5 quart jug in a different thread yesterday.

So Basically the idea is to get it to fill the entire "Safe" area?
