I picked up my truck with the same problems. Brake light and speed sensor issue ended up being connection at PCM. Shifting problem ended up being anchor on kick down band falling out (laying in bottom of pan. I had originally thought problem was PCM as all three functions are either monitored or controlled by PCM.

Don't know if this will help.

The light is most likely on because the speed sensor that's on top of the rear diff just went out.. most the time the speedo will kick back in over 30 mph.... atleast that's what it was with mine ... easy to replace .. 3 bolts and its completely out ...no mess..

Sensors can be checked easily. Remove sensor. Connect VOM to contacts. Should change form 0 ohms to some value as metal pices is rapidly moved in close proximity to sensor end. If no status change, sensor is bad.

Remove the negative battery cable. Check/clean the plug connection at the sensor on top of the rear diff housing. Take it for a ride and see if the lights come back on. If they do, replace the sensor.
