Yeah the light comes on and off. I'm also going to clean the throttle position sensor and the vehicle speed sensor and see if that corrects the problem. Other than that Idk what else it could be

I had the same problem on my first transmission and did all the things that you have done to correct it with no success. last thing I did was purchase a transmission fluid pressure tester and learned from this forum and the FSM how to connect it to the test ports on the side of the transmission. turns out the overdrive circuit would not build sufficient pressure to operate the 800 pound overdrive spring. probably due to a leaking seal internally. replaced it with a rebuilt unit (transmission) and all good now. I believe mine failed due to the universal type crap fluid put in by one of those quick lane service joints.

Ok thanks I will look into that, you got a completely rebuilt transmission or just the overdrive unit rebuilt and bolted back on?

I got a rebuilt trans, but you could just rebuild the overdrive. I was looking at going that route till I found a deal on the whole trans. best deal I could find for the overdrive was actually on ebay.

My overdrive always worked , but when i wrecked my transmission when I took her swimming , the guy at the transmission shop told me the overdrive (planetary gears) were moments away from failure . I wish I would have taken some pictures , but i was still a little upset with all the money i was having to spend . Could be that the entire OD unit is just shot .

Ok here are the results!! The three wires to the solenoid are positive, ground for the torque converter lockup, and ground for the overdrive. There was a short between the pcm and the solenoid for both of the ground wires. Figured that out and got it re wired back up and now I have overdrive again but man that was a PITA
