Ok, I'm about to let my Newbeeness really hang out here on this question.
I've got a '96 1500 with a factory alarm in it. The alarm has two buttons and two light, one button is Panic with a light to the left of it and the other button is labeled Valet with a light to the right of it. I found out pretty quickly what the Panic button does, no questions there. When I bought the truck, the guy that was showing to me pressed the Valet button so that the Valet light lit up, I had the turn for three months and I've never taken it off of Valet, and I've never set the alarm off. I noticed the other day that if I pressed the Valet button again, the Valet light would flash. I then opened the truck door and the alarm went off. Am I supposed to keep the Alarm in Valet mode or in the mode with the Valet light flashing? That seems like a pretty dumb question to ask and I almost feel dumb for asking it, almost.
