Default Ordered New Fuel Pump, one thing is different.....

I bought a replacement fuel pump online, for my 99 Ram 1500 with 5.9L engine. As you can see in the photo's, the new one is missing a valve. This is a one way valve, I'm thinking for overflow. But, the new one has a capped off nipple, that has a hose attached to it inside, and it runs thru the body, and comes out the lower outside of the cylinder.

Is this an after- market change? How can I install this pump? Do I hook the old line up to the nipple instead? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance....

You need a pump for a 26 or 34 gallon tank. The new one in your pic is for a 35 gallon tank.

Yep, I think yours is the smaller tank pump and that's the large tank pump.

Uhhh, you replace the whole assembly, not just half of it. And what brand pump is the new one?

Edit: Either way, it's the wrong pump.

Pumps are different for the different tanks. It means they also hook up differently. The long beds were the only trucks that came with the 35 gallon tank, because they were the only ones that could fit the 35 gallon tank.

I have a long bed with the 35 gallon tank. I have to fill it almost once a week. And yes, I cry every time I drop a Benjamin into it. Not big baby tears mind you, more like that commercial with the Indian crying at all the pollution in the wold type tears.

Although buying on-line can save some money, it is usually "buyer beware" as the seller may have access to a multitude of products, their specifi knowledge of parts compatability, and in this case, vehicle options such as fuel tank size, may not even be something they consider. I have dealt with this on several occasions. Contact the seller, tell them they shipped the wrong part and ask to exchange if they have the correct item, refund if not. The biggest complaint I have with these purchases is the buyer usualy gets stuck with return freight, even if it was seller's mistake.

Good luck.

Pay with a credit card and file a complaint so that not one dime comes out of your pocket.

I called, and informed them of the mistake. It was on their end, and offered to refund the money. But, the one I need, they are out of stock, and can take 2-4 weeks to arrive.

For the price, I'm just going to retro-fit the new pump, with the old valve. It has the housing molded already for it, just needs cut out and installed. Or, I could take the pump out of the new cylinder, and install it in the old housing..

Thank you for letting me know the difference in tank sizes, etc. Besides the relay seems to be not working, I should be able to get it running. Thanks again
