Pop the top of the pumps off. I've done this before, just use extreme caution. You'll have to rewire the plugs, but that's easy. Just make a drawing of the pinout connectors and pop the pins out with a long, slender tool. You'll also need a crimp connector for the hose to hold it in place inside the pump body and on the pressure regulator. Use the new pressure regulator and you're gold.

Post back if you need some help.

HAH, I did this too when buying my pump, got the wrong size, just exchange it back for the smaller tank.

The new housing won't physically fit in your gas tank. Swap the pump, or, return it, get your money back, and buy the right part locally.

Altering it wil probably void any warranty on pump.

Are you talking about a single cab short bed? My truck is a QC short bed and it has a 34 gallon tank OEM from the factory and still has some room I could go a bit bigger, see my build sheet:

NFUS 34 Gallon Fuel Tank

I believe it is the overall shape dodge decided to make the tank that prohibits it from fitting. that info about the tanks was posted here long ago, can't recall who posted it, but I believe it to be true.

I like to use the word "probably" because I do not actually know everything - (it's just something I tell my wife!)

Before I tore the old cylinder in half, I put the two side by side. They are identical, except for the return valve. I have had the pump in the tank already, and it fit's.

Autozone and Advanced wanted $220 for just the pump. I found a place online that had the whole Module for $125 plus $8 shipping. Then, I searched Ebay, and found the same thing for $49.99 with free shipping. I went to order it the following day, and they cut the price in HALF !!!! So, for under $25 ( plus free shipping ), I got the whole thing, and can afford to " modify " it. Worst thing happens, and it wont work. Then I wait 2-4 weeks, and order the right one, when they have them in stock.

It would have to be the short bed regular cab at only the smaller tank, whereas the larger frame like that of the standard cab long bed and Quad cab short bed would have a longer frame and that would make perfect sense to have the option of having the larger tank.
