Wouldn't hurt to flush the entire system before you yank the old heater core. (sure, it may leak onto the floor, but, what's the point of putting in a new one, and then circulating all the crap in your engine thru it?)

15 quart should be adequate to the task. If you are careful, you will only lose a little bit. Just be ready to cap off the lines when you take em off the heater core.

Whats the proper way to flush the system without chemicals? I was reading in another topic about filling the rad with water after draining the system, run it for a few minutes with heater on max, then drain the water?

Since you like working on your vehicle, you should download the 01 service manual, and get a Haynes manual. https://dodgeforum.com/forum/2nd-gen...e-manuals.html

Why wouldn't you use chemicals?
